Wolves Struggle Against Golden Bears

ST. PAUL , Minn. - Northern State struggled against the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears tonight as they fall 58-76 and fall to .500 in NSIC play. With the loss the Wolves fall to 10-4, 3-3 NSIC as the Golden Bears remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0 and 11-2 overall.

The Golden Bears used runs of 8-0 and 7-0 to take a lead of 23-10 with 7:56 left in the first half. The Wolves would cut the lead to 28-19 with 3:34 left in the half but were unable to climb any closer as the Golden Bears took a 13 point lead into halftime with score being 34-21.

in the second half the Wolves were able to cut the lead to six at 41-35 at the 14:20 mark of the half but, the Golden Bears would go on a 10-0 run to push the lead to 16 with 11:30 minutes left in the game. The Wolves would make another run in the game cutting the Golden Bear lead to 12 at 61-49 with just under six minutes to play. The rest of the game the Golden Bears would control the tempo as they won by a final margin of 18 points, 76-58.

The Wolves were led once agian by Kevin Ratzsch as he had a double double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Levi Hamilton also had a double double as he scored 10 points and also snarred 11 boards. The only other player in double figures for the Wovles was Craig Nelson as he scored 15 points in the game.

The Golden Bears were led by Craig Heiman who had 18 points in the contest. Cortez Forte and Marlon Walker had 17 and 12 respectively to help the Golden Bears to the victory.

In the game the Wolves outrebounded the Golden Bears 41 to 33 but only shot 37.9% (25/66) to th eGolden Bears 50.9% (27/53) for the game. The Golden Bears also had an edge in the free throw department making 17 of 26 compard to the Wolves 2 of 8.

The Wolves will be in action again on January 12 when they host Minnesota, Crookston at 8:00 pm in a conference match up in Aberdeen, SD.
