Wolves Fluff the Peacocks

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Craig Nelson scored a career high 25 points to help the Wolves defeat the Peacocks 82-59 in Aberdeen, S.D. The Wolves improve to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in the NSIC. With the loss the Peacocks fall to 3-17 overall and 2-9 in the NSIC.

After a rough first half, which encountered an intentional foul on Upper Iowa's Nick Larson and a technical foul on the Peacocks coach, the Wolves were able to take a 17 point lead into halftime at 49-32. The Peacocks and the Wolves played even basketball until the 14:42 mark of the first half, after which the Wolves would go on to outscore the Peacocks 40-23 the rest of the half.

The Wolves were led in scoring by Craig Nelson as he scored 20 points on 5 of 8 shooting from long range. Keving Ratzsch had 9 points on 4 of 4 shooting while bringing down 5 rebounds. Luke Wicks scored 8 points on 2 of 3 shooting from behind the arc.

The Peacocks were led by Turmel Woods had he scored 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting. Marcus Ulhenhopp had 8 points in the first half for the Peacocks.

In the half the Wolves shot 57.7% (15/26) from the field and 63.6% (7/11) from the behind the arc. The Peacocks only shot 40.7% (11/27) from the field and 45.5% (5/11) from long range. The Peacocks only shot 45.5% (5/11) from the free throw line to the Wolves 75.0% (12/16). The Wolves forced 8 turnovers to their 6 and had 17 points off of turnovers to the Peacocks' 2.

The Northern State Wolves jumped out to a 69-41 lead early in the second half and never looked back as they cruised to the victory. The Peacocks never cut the deficit to less than 19 points in the second half.

Northern State was led by Nelson as he went 7-of-12 from the field for 25 points. Kevin Ratzsch scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and led the Wolves with 7 rebounds. The only other player in double figures for the Wolves was Rob Thomas as he scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

The Peacocks were led by Marcus Ulenhopp as he scored 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting. Nick Larson and Turmel Woods both had 12 points.

The Wolves shot 57.1% (28/49) to the Peacocks' 40.4% (21/52). The Wolves out rebounded the Peacocks 32 to 27 and had 24 points off turnovers to the Peacocks 13. NSU had 32 points in the paint to UIU's 12 and also had 32 bench points to the Peacocks' 20.

The Wolves will be in action again on February 2nd when they take on SW Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn. Game time is set for 8:00 pm.
