Wolves Hang On Against Beavers

Bemidji, Minn.- The Northern State men's basketball team (18-7, 11-5 NSIC) pushed their winning streak to four games with a 61-57 victory against the Bemidji State Beavers (4-20, 4-12 NSIC). Northern State was able to out score Bemidji State 32-25 in the second half to come away with the four point victory.

The Wolves jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the first half, however the Beavers would fight back and go on a 15-0 run to take a 20-10 lead with 10:20 left in the half. The rest of the half the Wolves would go on a run of their own out scoring the Beavers 19-12, but still trailed by three points at 29-32 going into the half.

The Wolves took the lead back in the opening minutes of the second half, going on a 15-3 run to go ahead 44-37 with 15:19 left in the game. The Beavers would go on a 12-7 run to cut the lead to 2 at 51-49 with 7:31 left, but that would be the closest they would get. The rest of the way featured the Wolves going on a 10-8 run to come away with the four point victory.

In the game, the Wolves had four players in double figures. They were led by Levi Hamilton with 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting while also snaring 7 boards. Luke Wicks poured in 13 points on 4 of 6 shooting and Craig Nelson and Kevin Ratzsch had 11 points apiece.

The Beavers had three players in double figures. Brandon Fields, Arron Evans, and Alex Smith all had 12 points for the Beavers. The Beavers were led on the boards by Sergej Baskow who snared 8 rebounds.

In the game, the Beavers out-shot the Wolves 36.5% (23/63) to 35.2% (19/54). The Wolves did shoot well from the free throw line, hitting 81.8% (18/22) to the Beavers' 75.0% (3/4).

The Beavers out rebounded the Wolves 41 to 37 but committed 12 turnovers to the Wolves' 9.

The Wolves will be in action next when they face Minnesota, Crookston in Crookston, Minn. on February 17th at 8:00 pm.
