WOLVES GO 0-5 AT SOUTH DAKOTA STATE INVITATIONAL

April 14, 2001

Northern State was in striking distance in many of the games but lost all five at the salty South Dakota State Jackrabbit Invitational April 13-14. The first day, NSU fell to Missouri Southern State (0-4), Minnesota State-Mankato (3-5) and Pittsburg State (1-9). On day two, the Wolves came close in both matchups but fell to intra-state rivals South Dakota (3-5) and South Dakota State (3-6). NSU is now 2-15 on the season.

Among the highlights of the weekend was the play of junior outfielder Nicole Osborn (Redfield), who led NSU with a .357 batting average on the weekend. Sophomore catcher Cyndy Bronte (Oronoco, Minn.) was next at the plate with a .353 average to go with three runs scored and two RBI. Sophomore pitcher and utility player Amy Gurney (Yankton) batted .333 for the Wolves, including three RBI and one run scored. On the mound, freshman Lindsey Lewis (Black Hawk) put in a strong performance against MSU-Mankato, giving up just one earned run and scattering nine hits in a losing effort.

Another highlight for NSU came off the bat of freshman third baseman Kacie Weatherly (Pipestone, Minn.), who jacked her first career homerun in the Mankato game.

NSU is scheduled to face Southwest State in Marshall Tuesday, April 17. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
