BLOCK STOPS WOLVES' BID FOR THREE STRAIGHT

April 21, 2001

Northern State ran into one of the best pitchers in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and came up short in a 4-2 loss to Bemidji State Saturday in the squad's final game at the NSIC Crossover in Morris, Minn.

In the first two games of the crossover, NSU's offense put up gargantuan numbers, but in the third game Beaver pitcher Annie Block did her best to stop the Wolves' bats. The Wolves mustered six hits against Block, but three defensive errors also hurt their chances against BSU's ace.

The Wolves (4-20, 2-5 NSIC) were led by junior outfielder Kristen Bottomley (Rapid City), who went 2-of-3 at the plate including a double one run scored. Bottomley was also credited with a stolen base. In NSU's first seven conference games, Bottomley leads the team with an out-of-this world .500 batting average.

Sophomore pitcher Amy Gurney (Yankton) took the loss on the mound for the Wolves despite a good outing.
