Northern State Softball got off to a great start in their 2001 season,
winning their season opener in the dome at the Univeristy of Mary. The
Wolves played Minot State in the first game and defeated them by a score
of 10-6. Sophomore Amy Gurney (Yankton) pitched a complete game for the
Wolves and junior first baseman Jodi Klett (Eagan, Minn.) led the Wolves
at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Senior Anne Toulouse
(Emmons, Minn.) was 2-for-4 for NSU and scored a run to go along with 2
RBI.
In the second game, the Wolves played the host team, University of
Mary, and were defeated fell to the Marauders by a score of 0-8. The Wolves
were 8-run ruled and the game was over after 4 and a 1/2 innings. Freshman
Melissa Stone (Carson City, Nev.) went the distance for the Wolves in her
college debut, but received the loss, as the Wolves were only able to muster
4 hits against the Marauders. The loss drops the Wolves record to 1-1 on
the season.
The Wolves next action will be on March 17 & 18 at the Dome on the campus of the University of South Dakota.
