WOLVES SPLIT WITH VALLEY CITY

March 28, 2001

The Northern State University softball team finally saw some green grass as they played their first game of the 2001 season outside. Well, it wasn't really green grass, but it was on grass nonetheless. As temperatures hovered around 40 degrees, the Wolves took the field in the first game of a doubleheader at Valley City State University after having played their first six games inside. The Wolves fell in game one by a score of 1-6, as NSU struggled with four errors and couldn't manufacture more then one run. In game two, the Wolves were met with much more success as they gained their second win of the season by a score of 5-2. Assistant coach, Joe Reints said that the Wolves struggled in the field in the first game, but in the second game they made some good plays in the field. "We kind of decided to let them loose in the second game, we had a few stolen bases, we were able to put some bunts down and move some runners over and make things happen. That's what it takes to win games."

The win puts the 2001 Wolves at 2-6 overall and gives head coach Paula Krueger her 35th career win which ties her for 4th place on NSU's coaches win list with Deb Finnesand.

The games in Valley City, N.D. were scheduled to be played in Aberdeen but were moved to Valley City due to snowy fields in Aberdeen. The home games that were scheduled against Mayville State University have been temporarily postponed, but it is doubtful that the games will be rescheduled. The Wolves next scheduled competition is set for Wednesday, April 4 in Brookings against South Dakota State University. The first-pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
