WOLVES LOSE DOUBLEHEADER TO SOUTHWEST STATE

May 1, 2001

Northern State didn't have quite enough firepower to defeat Southwest State University on Monday as they lost both games to the Mustangs.

In the first game, the Wolves lost 4-6, but not before staging a comeback in the top of the 7th. The Wolves scored four runs, but were stopped short in their comeback bid. Elisa LaFrance (Spearfish, S.D.) continued her hot hitting for the Wolves as she went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored to go along with her double. Amy Gurney (Yankton, S.D.) pitched another good game for the Wolves as she allowed only one earned run, but NSU was done in with four errors.

In game two, NSU took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 4th, but couldn't hold on for the win. Kacie Weatherly (Pipestone, Minn.) was the offensive star for the Wolves, getting a 2-RBI triple and getting one of only three hits that the Wolves were able to muster.

The losses drops the Wolves' record to 5-28 overall and 2-9 in NSIC action. The Wolves will head to the NSIC Tournament this weekend.
