WOLVES WIN ONE AT CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT, BUT FALL TWICE

May 6, 2001

The season came to an end for Northern State University's Softball team yesterday when they were eliminated from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament. The Wolves beat University of Minnesota-Morris in their first game, 8-0 (in 6 innings) before falling to Concordia University-St. Paul 0-5 and Minnesota State University-Moorhead 1-5 in the double-elimination tournament.

In the Wolves 8-0 win over Morris, Melissa Stone allowed only two hits in five innings of work and juniors Kristen Bottomley (Rapid City, S.D.) and Jodi Klett (Eagan, Minn.) both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Bottomley had four RBI, Klett had one and Cyndi Bronte (Oronoco, Minn.) knocked in two runs for the Wolves. Eight of the nine Wolves batters had hits as they roughed up the Cougar pitchers for a run in the first and second, and three runs in the third and fifth.

That would prove to be the last win of the season for NSU as they would then fall to Concordia-St. Paul. The Wolves were only able to get three hits off of Golden Bear pitching as the hitting went south.

Facing elimination, the Wolves took on the Dragons of Minnesota State-Moorhead and ran out of gas. The Wolves only had two hits and could not keep the Dragon hitters at bay.

The loss ended the season for the Wolves with a 6-30 record overall, and 2-9 in the NSIC. It was the last game ever for NSU seniors Dana Jesnowski (Evansville, Minn.) and Anne Toulouse (Emmons, Minn.).
