Northern falls twice in doubleheader with Wayne State

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State opened the 2002 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season by losing 1-7 and 0-6 to Wayne State Saturday at Manor Park in Aberdeen.

The Wolves (3-6 overall, 0-2 NSIC) were led by freshman Samantha Guinn (Mountain Lake, Minn.), who went 3-for-5 from the plate and drove in Northern's lone run on the day. Guinn also pitched the first game, giving up four earned runs in the loss.

The teams played in winds gusting to 35 mph. Wayne State improved to 12-16 overall and 3-1 in the NSIC. Northern hosts Dakota Wesleyan in a non-conference game Sunday.
