Wolves Split with Dakota State - Pick up First
Win
Northern State split a doubleheader with Dakota State,
losing game one 7-2 and rebounding to win game two, 4-2.
The Wolves found themselves in a hole early in game
one as they trailed 4-1 an inning and a half into the game. They
did pull within two runs in the bottom on the fourth when Lisa Koehler
scored on a Cyndy Bronte single. That was close as the Wolves would
get as Dakota State added some insurance runs on a three run homer
that Jeny Garst shot over the center field fence in the top of the
seventh inning.
In the second game the Wolves struck first in the
bottom of the second inning when Christie Schulte scored after Caitlin
Hodges grounded out to the pitcher.
Dakota State struck back in the top of the third when
Sara Kloetzer singled, knocking in a run, and having another run
scored on a error by the catcher making it a 2-1 game in favor of
Dakota State.
After the third inning Chirstie Schulte took over
the game as she only allowed one more hit on her way to a three
hitter. She only allowed one earned run, struck out three and walked
only two batters in her seven innings of work.
The Wolves, who still trailed by one took the lead
in the fifth inning. After a Cassey Vieth single to center, Lisa
Koehler roped a triple down the right field line scoring Vieth and
tying the game at two. Koehler scored after Cyndy Bronte reach on
an error as the Wolves took a 3-2 lead.
The Wolves added an insurance run in the bottom of
the sixth when Caitlin Hodges scored from third on an error by the
second basemen.
The Wolves are now 1-4 on the season and will travel
to South Dakota on March 25 for a double header.
