Wolves Drop Two at South Dakota
Northern State dropped a pair of games at South Dakota
by a score of 0-5 and 1-3. The two losses drop the Wolves to 1-6
on the season as they head into the Briar Cliff Tournament on March
26th and 27th.
Game one had all of its runs scored in the third and
fourth innings. USD put together three hits in the third inning
to plate a pair of runs. They then racked up the rest of their runs
on a two out, three run homer after the Wolves allowed a walk and
a single.
Lisa Koehler pitched six innings for the Wolves giving
up 12 hits, five runs, five walks as her record drops to 0-4 on
the season.
Angie Olson had two of the three hits for the Wolves
in game one.
In the 1-3 loss in game two, the Wolves out hit South
Dakota 5-4, but were unable to score enough runs to get the win.
Christi Schulte took her first loss of the year in
two appearances, but put on a solid performance. Schulte allowed
three run on four hits in her six innings of work. She rung up three
batters in the game, but gave up six costly walks. Two of the walks
coming in South Dakota's two-run fourth inning.
The lone run scored by the Wolves came in the sixth
after a South Dakota error allowed two extra bases during the inning.
Jenna Drey started out the inning with a bunt single, and then Christi
Bronte reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an
error by the third baseman. Drey advanced to second and then to
third on the error. Cassey Veith then flied to left to score the
run. The next two batters for the Wolves went down swinging to end
the late rally.
The Wolves next action will be this weekend, March
26th and 27th at the Briar Cliff Tournament.
