Wolves Sweep Golden Eagles in Conference Opener
Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State Wolves (8-12, 2-0 NSIC) swept the Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagles (1-8, 0-2 NSIC) in the first conference games of the season.
Game 1
In the first game the Wolves used two big innings to defeat the Golden Eagles 10-2. The Wolves opened up the scoring when they exploded for five runs in the second inning. Lisa Koehler (Sr., P., Waconia, Minn.) led the Wolves as she went 3 for 3 in the game and scored 3 of the Wolves 10 runs. She also pitched a great game as she went all five innings giving up 6 hits, 2 runs, and striking out 3 batters. Koehler improved her record to 4-5 on the season.
Zomarie Lozano (Jr., SS., Juncos, PR) helped the Wolves as she went 2 for 3 from the plate and batted in four. The Wolves put the eight run rule in effect when they scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
For the Golden Eagles Kacee Biederman had a good game as she had two of the Eagles 6 hits going 2 for 3 at the plate.
Game 2
In the second game of the double header the Wolves used another big inning to come from behind. The Wolves would score once in the first inning and would not score again until the sixth.
Lisa Koehler hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to help the Wolves to the 6-4 win. This is the second grand slam this season for the Wolves. The Wolves would get two hits apiece from five different players for a balanced offensive attack.
The Wolves got a strong pitching performance from Christi Schulte (Jr., P., Sioux Fall, S.D.) and Audrey Decker ( St. Charles, Minn.) to preserve the sweep. Schulte went 4 1/3 innings striking out 4 and giving up 3 runs. Decker would improve her record to 2-2 with the win as she went 2 2/3 innings giving up 1 hit, 1 run, and getting 1 strike out.
The Golden Eagles were led by Courtney Nohre as she went 2 for 2 from the plate and scored a run. Nohre also pitched a strong game as she went the full six innings for the Golden Eagles. Nohre falls to 1-4 on the season.
The Wolves will be in action again on Saturday April 1 st as they take on cross town rival Presentation College at Manor Park. The games are set for 1:00 and 3:00.
