Tara Schumacher's Grand Slam Help Wolves Defeat Jamestown 7-6 in Game 1
Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State held on to knock off Jamestown College 7-6 in the first game of a doubleheader. After 3 ½ scoreless innings the Wolves exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, capped off by a Tara Schumacher grand slam. Schumacher finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored.
Lisa Koehler (6-6) went five innings without giving up a hit before she got into some trouble in the top of the sixth. After walking two batters to start the inning, the Jimmies rallied for four runs on three hits to make it a 7-4 game.
After the Wolves went scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, the Jimmies began another rally. After a single to short, Jamestown smacked a two-run homer to make it a one run game. A Wolves error allowed the tying run on board and a wild pitch put her in scoring position at second, but Koehler was a cool as the other side of the pillow as she send the Jimmies packing on a called third strike out to end the game.
Koehler finished the game giving up five earned runs on five hits, struck out four and walked two of the 32 batters she faced.
Game 2
In the second game the Jamestown College Jimmies (13-7, 0-0 DAC-10) jumped out to an early 3-1 lead and never looked back as they defeated the Northern State Wolves (11-15, 2-0 NSIC) by a score of 8-1 to get the split. The Jimmies used a 3 run inning and a couple of 2 run innings to help them to their thirteenth win of the year.
The Wolves were unable to get anything going offensively as Danielle Yunto went all seven innings only giving up 5 hits in the game. The Wolves got hits from Simar, Kozelsky, Lozano, Koehler, and Hodges.
For the Wolves pitching Christi Schulte (Jr., Pitcher, Sioux Falls, S.D) got the loss falling to 2-4 on the year. She went 4 2/3 innings giving up 5 hits and 3 earned runs with 2 strikeouts.
The Jimmies were led by Nicole Marcoux and Bree Summers as they each had two hits in the game.
The Wolves will be in Marshall, Minn. on April 8th and 9th for an NSIC Cross Over. The Wolves are scheduled to play at 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm on both days of competition.
