The Northern State softball team (0-1) had an impressive showing against the University of Mary (1-0) Saturday afternoon. They tallied nine hits in the game, but were able to cross just one runner over the plate and fell by a score of 2-1. Two Wolves errors led to a set of Marauder runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, enough for Mary to take the win in the season-opening game at the Husky Dome Classic on the campus of St. Cloud State.

Sophomore Hilary Smith (Brainerd, MN) had three hits at the designated hitter position. A single in the fifth inning drove in Nicole Jannsen (Fireston, CO) for the team’s solo score of the day. Christi Schulte (Sioux Falls, SD) toed the rubber in the season opener, giving up one earned run and three hits while gaining five strikeouts.

The University of Mary received hits from Ward, Lunn, and Benavidez.
