Wolves End Regular Season With Set Of Wins

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Wolves softball team (9-39) wrapped up the 2007 regular season lineup with a sweep over Presentation College at Moccasin Creek Fields Tuesday evening. With today's 4-3 and 12-1 wins, the Wolves have won three of their last four games. They will open play at the NSIC Tournament this Friday at 12 noon, taking on No. 1 seed Southwest Minnesota State.

GAME 1
Senior Caitlin Hodges hit a go-ahead solo homerun in the sixth inning to give the Wolves a final 4-3 edge over the Saints. Presentation took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Northern got it's sticks going in the third inning to jump out 3-1. Runs came in on three successive at-bats, with RBI going to Lipetzky, Smith, and Hodges. The Saints answered with one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings, but Hodges' homer gave the Wolves the final lead of the game.

Hodges batted 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Janssen also went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Christi Schulte gained her seventh win of the year, pitching a complete game with two earned runs and seven strikeouts. The Saints out-hit the Wolves eight to six but stranded seven runners.

GAME 2
In the final home game of her career, senior Jenna Drey went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate, scoring two runs and marking two RBI. The Wolves dominated the Saints the entire game, recording 11 hits to PC'sthree while taking advantage of eight Saints errors. They led the entire game, scoring their 12 runs in just four innings at bat. The Wolves batted around the order and scored seven runs in the fourth.

Drey's three hits led all players, while Heather Olson and Jill Sjoerdsma each had three RBI. Hodges had another great performance, reaching base and scoring in each of her three at-bats. Senior Audrey Decker gained her first win of the season from the mound, pitching all five innings while allowing just one earned run. She gave up only three hits.
