Wolves Offense Falls Short, Shutout On Weekend

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Northern State soccer team (3-2) lost their second game of the season and weekend on a wet and stormy Sunday evening in St. Cloud, MN. The Wolves were kept scoreless again, resulting in a weekend shutout. They dropped the game to Minnesota Duluth by a slim margin of 0-1.

The SCSU Husky Invite was delayed several hours today as rain and lightning passed over the playing field. The Wolves finally hit the field, hoping to make a mark in the NCC. Unfortunately, they Northern offense was stymied once again by a tough defensive force and the team failed to score for the second consecutive game.

The Bulldogs did not get many more looks at the goal than the Wolves did, however they managed to put in one of three shots on goal, enough for a victory. The Wolves came close to tieing the game midway through the second half, as Melissa Gamble took a shot toward the net at the same time that the UMD goalkeeper hit the ground. A UMD defender earned her stripes for the day by making a dive that blocked the ball just at the goal line and kept the Bulldogs in the lead.

The Wolves had a lone shot on goal and nine shots in the game. Duluth had three shots on goal and 15 shots in 90 minutes of play.

Northern soccer returns to action on Saturday, September 9th as they host York College in a 1:00 pm game. There will be plenty of comfortable viewing space for all NSU fans to come and cheer the team to victory.
