Wolves Edge the Marauders in Double Overtime

Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State Wolves (11-5, 6-3 NSIC) used two goals from NSU's all-time goals scorer Melissa Gamble to defeat the University of Mary Marauders (6-8-3, 4-3-2 NSIC) in double overtime by a score of 2-1. With the win the Wolves will host a first round playoff game on October 24th, in Aberdeen, S.D. on Jerde Field.

The Wolves out shot the Marauders 17 to 10 in the game with a nine to four advantage in shots on goal. The Marauders scored first in the game as Alyssa Deutscher put one past the Wolves goal keeper off of an assist from Danielle Mello. The Wolves would battle back as they would score the with under five minutes left in regulation as Melissa Gamble got an assist from Stephanie Connolly to tie the game at one goal apiece. The game went into a five minute overtime but neither team was able to score.

In the second overtime Melissa Gamble would net her second goal of the game and her third game winning goal of the season to give the Wolves the win.

The Wolves goal keeper Theresa Alaxander made three saves on the day and improved her overall recored to 6-5 on the season.

The Wolves will be in action on October 17th as they face the Augustan College Vikings at 1:00 pm in Aberdeen, SD. The game is set for a 3:00 start.
