Wolves Recognized With NSIC Honors

Steve Kehm has been named the NSIC's 2007 Coach of the Year

November 1, 2007
ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Wolves nearly swept the NSIC soccer honors for 2007, with Kira Wannebo named Defensive Player of the Year, Maggie Fedor the Newcomer of the Year, and Steve Kehm named Coach of the Year. Northern had four players named to the All-Northern Sun Conference teams, as released by the NSIC office October 31.

Kira Wannebo is a two-time All-NSIC First Team honoree who has also been named the league's Defensive Player of the Year. A senior from Weston, Fla., Wannebo was named the 2007 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and has been a main component to an NSU defense that has allowed just two goals in NSIC play this season and has recorded 11 shutouts.

Maggie Fedor has been named the 2007 NSIC Newcomer of the Year. A freshman forward from Monticello, Minn., Fedor is the league's leading goal scorer with 15 goals on the season. This is the second highest goals-per-season mark in Northern history, just one score shy of the all-time record of 16. Fedor has an additional four assists on the year for 34 total points.

For the second time in his career with the Wolves, head coach Steve Kehm has been named NSIC Coach of the Year. He has led the squad to a 15-4-2 record with games remaining in the NSIC Tournament and a possible berth in the NCAA Tournament. Kehm has a career record of 123-65-14. He was the 2001 NSIC Coach of the Year.

Joining Wannebo and Fedor on the All-NSIC First Team is junior Maggie Madrid (D, Petaluma, Calif.). Rounding out the honors for the Wolves in 2007 is midfielder Summer Swan (So., Oregon City, Ore.), who made the Second Team.

The No. 2 seeded Wolves continue play in the NSIC Tournament this weekend, playing host as the highest remaining seed with an overall record of 15-4-2 and a league mark of 7-1-1. They will face No. 6 MSU Moorhead at 11:00 am at Jerde Field. A win against the Dragons will put NSU in the NSIC Championship game, which will be on Sunday at 1:00 am.
