EARNS VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN HONORS

SD: Northern State cross country and track & field standout Kristin
Peterson (Jr., Arlington, S.D.) was named to the Verizon® Academic
All-America Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team. The
announcement came on Thursday.
Peterson, one of fifteen cross country/track & field athletes from
across the nation to receive second team honors, had compiled a
perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average during her three years
at NSU with a major in biology.
Peterson
is a two-time all-NSIC selection in cross country finishing second
in the conference meet in both 2001 and 2002. She has also earned
team MVP honors for cross country all three years at Northern State.
In
track & field, Peterson has been an two-time NSIC champion in the
indoor 5000 meter run and the outdoor steeplechase. She has also
earned all-NSIC honors in the mile and 1500 meter run and has been
a two-time NCAA II provisional qualifyer in the steeplechase. In
all, Kristin is a 12-time all-NSIC selection.
“Kristin
has shown a great ability to balance her major in biology, her extra
curricular activities and running and excel in all three,” commented
NSU Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Jim Fuller. “I don’t
recall coaching an athlete in the last 15 years that has had been
able to have such a well-rounded college career.”
Peterson
is a six-time member of the NSIC All-Academic team, a USTCA All-Academic
selection and a CCCA All-Academic pick. She is an NSU scholar athlete,
on the NSU Dean’s List, an NSU student-athlete mentor, member of
Student Ambassadors and member of the FCA.
Peterson
is NSU’s second Verizon® Academic All-American in the 2002-03 academic
year joining NSU soccer player Natalie Blodgett who also received
second team consideration.
The
Verizon® Academic All-America team is voted upon by members of the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
