NSU GOES 1-1 IN FIRST DAY OF SDSU BK CLASSIC

Northern State fell 3-2 to NAIA third-ranked Dickinson State (15-5, 4-15, 10-15, 15-13, 15-4) before rebounding to sweep Colorado School of Mines 3-0 (15-10, 15-5, 15-10).

In the first match, junior Tricia Schilling (Valley City, N.D.)paced the Wolves with 46 assists and 16 digs. Senior Jean Kringstad (Aberdeen) pounded out 17 kills and six blocks, but it wasn't enough as the Wolves fell flat in the final game after being edged in the fourth game. NSU kept the match close despite not hitting on cyliners as a team, managing just a .119 hitting percentage for the five-game marathon match.

In the second match, Kringstad (11 kills, seven blocks) and Gillete, Wyo. sophomore Beth Van Emmerik (10 kills on .450 hitting percentage) led the way for NSU.

On Saturday, NSU plays Minnesota-Morris at 2 p.m. and host No. 15 and undefeated South Dakota State at 6 p.m.
