Sept. 18, 1999
An hour-and-a-half? No problem.
That was all the time Northern's match against Minnesota-Crookston was scheduled to last Saturday at the always tightly-scheduled Barnett Center. On either side of the match in the same facility were scheduled high school basketball games as part of NSU's Women's Basketball Classics. As it turned out, all the Wolves needed was 45 minutes to dispatch Crookston 3-0 (15-0, 15-2, 15-8). And that time included the pre-match festivities of NSU's Parents Night.
NSU (4-9, 2-0 NSIC) came out on fire and never cooled off. The Wolves hit at a .474 clip to blank the conference newcomers in the first game. On the flip side, NSU held UMC's hitting percentage in the first two games to negative digits. Crookston (2-10, 0-3 NSIC) managed its first point of the match in the second game with NSU up 12-0. The third game was closer as NSU plugged some of its younger players into the lineup, but still no contest.
Freshman outside hitter and 1998 South Dakota High School Ms. Volleyball
Stephanie Tschetter (Huron) found her stroke against the Golden Eagles,
driving home a match-high nine kills at a .600 hitting percentage clip.
Senior outside hitter Alana Kiehn (Carlton, Minn.) led NSU's defensive
effort with 10 digs.
