NSU VOLLEYBALL FALL CAMP TO BEGIN AUGUST 12
August 10, 1999
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University volleyball team will
begin fall practices Thursday, Aug. 12 in the Barnett
Center on NSU's campus.
On-court practices are at 9 a.m. to noon (individual) and 6-9 p.m. (team)
until Aug. 25. The Maroon/Gold Scrimmage is
scheduled for Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Barnett Center. The team will
then leave for the Rollins College Kick-Off Classic
tournament in Winter Park, Fla. Northern's schedule for that tournament
is as follows:
Aug. 27, 4 p.m., Edinboro University
Aug. 28, Noon, Florida Southern College
Aug. 28, 4 p.m., University of Tampa
Aug. 28, 7 p.m., Rollins College
The team arrives back in Aberdeen Aug. 30, with school starting Aug. 31. Practices during school will run from 3:30-6 p.m.
Last year, the Wolves finished 21-10, marking the program's best record
since the 1982 season. The wins included three over
nationally-ranked teams in a what was an extremely competitive pre-conference
schedule for the Wolves. Head coach Lisa
Schriver was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Coach
of the Year for the team's third-place conference
mark.
The Wolves return all-conference performers in senior middle hitter
Jean Kringstad (Aberdeen), junior setter Tricia Schilling
(Valley City, S.D.) and sophomore outside hitter Roxy Wolf (Apple Valley,
Minn.). Wolf also won last season's conference
Newcomer of the Year Award. With another solid recruiting season, Schriver
and the Wolves look to make more noise in the conference title chase and
beyond as the squad faces another loaded pre-conference slate.
"I'm looking forward to getting camp underway and completing the transition
from last season," Schriver said. "We lost some
key seniors who did a lot of our serve receiving so we'll be spending
a lot of time with ball handling and passing skills in camp.
We had a great springball season before school ended, which helped
our upperclassmen get comfortable playing without last
year's seniors. We also had a strong recruiting class, so a big part
of fall camp will also be working with our freshman and
getting them comfortable with our system. I think we're going to have
a very athletic team overall this year and should be able to compete with
anybody."
1999 NORTHERN STATE VOLLEYBALL PREVIEW
After posting its second-best record in team history, NSU’s volleyball program will have to fill the shoes of three key seniors to meet or exceed last season’s accomplishments.
Last year, NSU finished 21-10, its best record since the 1982 season.
The wins included three over nationally-ranked teams in what was an extremely
competitive pre-conference schedule for the Wolves. Head coach Lisa Schriver
was named the
Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year for the team's
third-place conference mark.
All three of NSU's lost seniors were four-year regulars whose names
are littered througout NSU's record book. But the
Wolves return all-conference performers in next-year senior middle
hitter Jean Kringstad (Aberdeen), junior setter Tricia
Schilling (Valley City, S.D.) and sophomore outside hitter Roxy Wolf
(Apple Valley, Minn.). Wolf also won last season's
conference Newcomer of the Year Award. With another solid recruiting
season, Schriver and the Wolves look to make more
noise in the conference title chase and beyond as the squad faces another
loaded pre-conference slate.

April 28, 1999
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University volleyball program announced
today that Spearfish High School product
Elisa LaFrance will attend Northern State University and play volleyball
for the Wolves this fall. The 5-foot-7 outside hitter is a South Dakota
Class AA All-State selection and a versatile athlete who will also participate
in softball at Northern State.
"We are excited to have Elisa join our program this fall," NSU head
volleyball coach Lisa Schriver said. "She comes from a
successful volleyball program. She is a good all-around athlete and
jumps really well."
So far this off-season, the Wolves have added: Stephanie Tschetter,
a 5-10 outside hitter from Huron; Molly Veenhof, a 5-9
middle hitter from Huron; Stacy Rotert, a 5-7 setter from Huron; Christi
Lucas, a 6-3 middle hitter from White; Becky Burrell,
a 6-1 outside hitter from Grand Forks, N.D.; Christina Martinez, a
5-8 outside hitter from Rawlins, Wyo.; and Tara Sauter, a

S.D. MS. VOLLEYBALL SIGNS ON WITH NORTHERN STATE
March 31, 1999
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University volleyball program announced
today the signing of 1999 Class AA Ms.
Volleyball Stephanie Tschetter to a National Letter of Intent.
Tschetter helped Huron High School to two straight state championships during her junior and senior seasons. The 5-10 outside hitter was an all-Eastern South Dakota and All-State performer as a senior. Tschetter is a three-sport athlete for Huron, also competing in basketball and track and field. She placed fifth in the triple jump at NSU's Al Sahli Class AA indoor meet last week.
"Stephanie is an impact player," NSU third-year coach Lisa Schriver said. "She's a powerful hitter and a great defensive player with good jumping ability."
Tschetter is the third Huron player to sign on with NSU for this fall.
The other two are setter Stacy Rotert and middle hitter
Molly Veenhof. The Huron trio will bring an added attitude of success
to a Northern squad that posted its second-best record
in school history last season at 21-10.
"When I coached at Aberdeen Central High School, we always knew we'd
have to get by Huron to get to the state
tournament," Schriver said. "The school has become a real dominant
program that runs a college-style offense, which should
really help in the players' transition to the college game. We feel
very fortunate to have signed three Huron players. With what
they bring to the table fresh out of high school, I'm glad I won't
have to coach against them at the collegiate level."
In addition to the three from Huron, the Wolves have also added the
following recruits so far this off-season: Christina
Martinez, a 5-8 outside hitter from Rawlins, Wyo.; Becky Burrell, a
6-1 outside hitter from Grand Forks, N.D.; Christi Lucas,
a 6-3 middle hitter from White; and Tara Sauter, a 5-9 setter from
Belle Plaine, Minn.
ROTERT, LUCAS JOIN VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM
March 7, 1999
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University volleyball program announced
today the signing of Stacy Rotert and
Christi Lucas to National Letters of Intent.
Rotert is a 5-7 setter from Huron. She was a three-year starter for
Huron High School and a big part of the school's state class AA championship
teams as a junior and senior. She is an all state tournament team and all-state
performer, and also holds
numerous school records for Huron High. In addition to her volleyball
accomplishments, Rotert was also an all-conference golfer and basketball
team captain in high school.
"Stacy is very court smart and is a strong leader," NSU head volleyball coach Lisa Schriver said. "She ran a quick offense in high school very similar to a college offense. She has a good understanding of her teammates' strengths and weaknesses and keeps all her hitters involved. She knows who to get the ball to and when. In addition to setting, she's also a good defensive player and is able to play the net while in the front row."
Lucas is a 6-3 middle hitter from White. She helped Deubrook High School
capture the state class B championship as a junior
and was named to the tournament team. She was also an all-state selection
as a junior (this season's all-state selections are not
yet out). Lucas is a three-sport high school athlete, competing in
basketball and track in addition to volleyball.
"Christi is only going to get better as a volleyball player," Schriver
said. "She's the most athletic 6-3 player I've seen in the state. I think
she'll thrive in the college game. She has a strong desire to play at the
next level."
NORTHERN VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM SIGNS SAUTER
Feb. 24, 1999
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University volleyball program announced today the signing of high school player Tara Sauter to a National Letter of Intent.
The 5-9 Sauter is a three-sport athlete for Belle Plaine High School
(Minn.), also competing in basketball and softball. In
volleyball, she was a three-time all-conference performer since earning
the starting setter role as a sophomore. She's currently competing in Junior
Olympic volleyball.
"I was impressed with Tara as a sophomore," NSU head volleyball coach
Lisa Schriver said. "She was already running the
offense. She's very talented and has a good knowledge of the college
game. She also comes from a very athletic family. Her
sister is the setter at Huron University."
NORTHERN SIGNS TWO PREP SENSATIONS
Feb. 18, 1999
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University volleyball program announced
today the signing of two high school
volleyball standouts to National Letters of Intent. Signing on with
the Wolves for this fall are: Christina Martinez, a 5-8 outside
hitter from Rawlins, Wyo., and Becky Burrell, a 6-1 outside hitter
from Grand Forks, N.D.
Martinez was an all-conference and all-state performer for Rawlins High
School. She will play in Wyoming's statewide high
school All-Star match this summer.
"Christina comes from a very successful high school program and is a
very hard worker," Northern state volleyball coach Lisa
Schriver said. "She's a smart hitter and also reads well on defense."
Burrell is a left-handed force at the net for Grand Forks Red River
High School. Her team will defend its state championship
this weekend at the North Dakota State Class A Tournament. As a sophomore,
Burrell helped the Roughriders to a third-place finish in 1997. Burrell
has kept her skills sharp in the offseason by playing club ball.
"Becky has good all-around skills," Schriver said. "She's a strong leader
for a very successful high school team. We're really
looking forward to adding both her and Christina to our program."
Last season, Northern State finished 21-10 overall, its best mark since
1982. The Wolves knocked off three nationally ranked
opponents during the season and as a team were ranked second in the
nation in digs. Schriver, who was named Northern Sun
Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year, has big shoes to fill
on the floor this fall with the loss of three key seniors, but
also returns three all-conference performers to a team hoping to build
on its success in 1998.
