Wolves go 1-3 at Southwest State
Burger King Classic

Northern State lost three times before posting a victory at the 2001 Southwest State Burger King Classic in Marshall, Minn., Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, theWolves (2-5) lost 0-3 to Central Washington (23-30, 27-30, 25-30) and 1-3 to Morningside (30-27, 25-30, 28-30, 28-30). On Saturday, NSU fell 0-3 to Minnesota State-Mankato (24-30, 26-30, 18-30) before regrouping to defeat Mississippi University for Women 3-0 (30-25, 30-26, 30-24).

Individual highlights during the tournament included junior middle blocker Christi Lucas' (White, S.D.) performance vs. Morningside. She recorded 19 kills at a .371 hitting clip and added five blocks in that match. Sophomore setter Tara Sauter (Belle Plaine, Minn.) recorded 45 assists against Morningside, while junior outside hitter Molly Veenhof (Huron) led the way defensively with 15 digs. Veenhof also played well in NSU's quick loss to Mankato, hitting .467 with seven kills and no hitting errors.

In NSU's win against Mississippi University for Women, Lucas and senior middle blocker Shanna Dahl (St. Cloud, Minn.) led the way with 11 kills apiece. The two also combined for 11 blocks. Freshman setter Lindsey Ono (Omaha, Neb.) racked up 35 assists in the match. Defensively, junior outside hitter Elisa LaFrance (Spearfish) led the way with nine digs.

The Wolves open their home schedule Wednesday against national powerhouse North Dakota State University. The match starts at 7 p.m.
