For the
second straight match, the Wolves (10-7 overall, 4-2 Northern
Sun Intercollegiate Conference) scored easy wins in the first
two games but were forced to come back in the third to complete
the sweep. The Cougars led by as many as 24-17 and had several
chances to prolong the match, leading 29-26. But a Northern
side-out put the ball into the capable service hands of junior
Stephanie Tschetter (Huron, S.D.), who served the last four
points to give Northern the sweep.
The Wolves
pounded out 12 aces on the night, including three apiece by
Tschetter and senior Beth Van Emmerik (Gillette, Wyo.). Meanwhile,
the team's 21 total blocks on the night helped lower UMC's
team hitting percentage to just .090.
Junior
middle blocker Christi Lucas (White, S.D.) led the way with
10 kills on a .429 hitting clip. Senior middle Shanna Dahl
(St. Cloud, Minn.) had a match-high five blocks, while Tschetter
had a match-high nine digs to lead the Wolves defensively.
Setters Tara Sauter (sophomore, Belle Plaine, Minn.) and Lindsey
Ono (freshman, Omaha, Neb.) combined for 30 assists on the
night.
UMM (5-13,
0-5 NSIC) was led by Jenna Maki's 13 kills.
