WOLVES
WHACK WARRIORS TO STAY UNBEATEN AT HOME
Oct. 6,
2001

Our
House: NSU is 6-0 at home this season. |
Northern
State made short work of its fifth-straight Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference opponent at home Saturday afternoon, dominating
Winona State 3-0 (30-13, 30-16, 32-30).
The win
not only kept NSU's undefeated home mark intact at 6-0; it
also continued a dominating week-long stretch over NSIC opponents.
In the past seven days, the Wolves have blanked four league
teams 3-0 and held each team to a hitting percentage under
.100.
Saturday,
the Warriors hit just .028 on the night. WSU had trouble getting
offense going due in large part to the Wolves' service game,
led by junior outside hitter Kim Heny (Powell, Wyo.). Heny
blasted seven aces on the night, and in reality accounted
for more NSU points on the night as many of her serves were
received over the net as meatballs for the Wolves' front line
to feast on.
Heny also
led the team defensively with 11 digs to go with six kills.
Senior Shanna Dahl (St. Cloud, Minn.) led the team with 11
kills on an outlandish .556 hitting percentage. Sophomore
setter Tara Sauter tallied 22 assists in two games to lead
the team. In the final game, many of NSU's underclassmen got
a chance to play, and were able to stave off a late WSU comeback
to complete the sweep.
NSU improved
to 12-7 overall and 6-2 in the NSIC with the win, while WSU
fell to 6-13 overall and 3-5 in league play. The Wolves will
face their toughest home weekend next week, as league front-runners
Wayne State (Neb.) and Southwest State (Marshall, Minn.) come
to town. SSU is undefeated in league play, while WSC has one
loss in the NSIC.
