WOLVES
FALL IN FIVE AT MOORHEAD
Oct. 20,
2001
Northern
State fell in a heartbreaker at Minnesota State-Moorhead Saturday.
The Dragons defeated NSU 3-2 (22-30, 30-22, 32-30, 30-28,
16-14) in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match.
After
winning the first game, NSU (14-9, 8-4 NSIC) dropped the next
two, including a 32-30 game three slugfest. The team showed
the resolve of a champ in coming back with their backs against
the wall to claim game four, but couldn't quite repeat that
feat in game five.
Junior
middle hitter Christi Lucas (White, S.D.) had a banner day
despite the loss, recording a match-high 27 kills on a .305
hitting clip to go with eight blocks. Senior middle Shanna
Dahl (St. Cloud, Minn.) led the team in blocks with 10 and
recorded a double-double, also ending with 10 kills. Also
recording double-doubles on the day were junior outside hitters
Molly Veenhof (Huron, S.D.) with 16 kills on .467 hitting
percentage and 15 digs; and Kim Heny (Powell, Wyo.), with
14 kills and 16 digs. Sophomore setter Tara Sauter (Belle
Plaine, Minn.), also notched a double-double with 64 assists
and 13 digs. MSUM (12-12, 7-5 NSIC) was led by Tia Lindberg's
23 kills.
