WOLVES FALL JUST SHORT AT WAYNE STATE

Oct. 30, 2001

Northern State matched the top team in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference blow for blow, but wasn't able to finish in a marathon five-game road loss at Wayne State (30-23, 21-30, 28-30, 30-24, 9-15).

Neither team hit particularly well due to excellent net play. The teams combined for 42 blocks on the night (NSU 22, WSC 20). Junior outside hitter Molly Veenhof (Huron) led NSU's block party with seven.

The Wolves (15-11, 9-6 NSIC) were led by junior outside hitter Stephanie Tschetter (Huron), who led the team with 17 kills and 31 digs. Junior middle blocker Christi Lucas (White) chipped in 12 kills to go with six blocks for NSU. Sophomore setter Tara Sauter (Belle Plaine, Minn.) ended with 41 assists.

Wayne State (20-9, 12-2 NSIC), which is ranked sixth in the North Central Region, was led by Lindsey Koch's 21 kills and 21 digs.

NSU will end its home season Thursday against University of Mary. The match will also serve as Senior Appreciation Night, honoring NSU seniors Shanna Dahl and Beth Van Emmerik.
