Nov. 1, 2001

Northern State seniors Beth Van Emmerik (Gillette, Wyo.) and Shanna Dahl (St. Cloud, Minn.) played fitting ends to their home careers Thursday night, helping NSU to a 3-0 win over University of Mary (30-17, 31-29, 30-19).

Checking out -- Seniors Dahl (facing) and Van Emmerik (No. 9) played their last home match Thursday night.

As if it were scripted, the two came up big in scoring points late in the third game for Northern. First, Dahl stepped up and delivered an ace. Soon after, Van Emmerik ended the match with an emphatic kill.

Van Emmerik ended with the only non-setting double-double of the match, recording 10 kills and 15 digs. Dahl had six kills and a block. Junior Molly Veenhof (Huron) ended with a match-high 14 kills. Sophomore setter Tara Sauter (Belle Plaine, Minn.) tallied 40 assists and 15 digs. Eve Kostelecky led Mary with 10 kills.

Northern improved to 16-11, while Mary fell to 10-14.
