HAWAII: Northern
State junior setter Tara Sauter was one of six players placed
on the Hawaiian Style All-Tournament Team for
her
performances in this weekend's tournament.
Sauter
helped the Wolves to a 2-4 record on the weekend with all
four losses coming to nationally-ranked opponents.
Sauter
surpassed the 1,000 career assist plateau in her third match
of the season against Hawaii Pacific on Saturday. She became
just the fifth Wolf to ever reach 1,000 assists.
Other
members of the All-Tournament team include: Holly Welter MVP
(North Dakota), Jill Effhauser (North Dakota), Susy Garbelotti
(Hawaii Pacific), Sladjana Vasilsevic (Northwood) and Amy
Gruszynski (Northwood).
North
Dakota walked away with the team title going 6-0 on the weekend.

DOWNED BY TIMBERWOLVES

HAWAII: Northern
State fell to No. 23 Northwood (MI) for the second time this
weekend. This time, 30-25, 30-28, 34-32 in the Hawaiian Style
Tournament in Hilo, Hawaii.
Christi
Lucas paced the Wolves with nine kills followed by eight each
from Kim Heny and Molly Veenhof. Northern hit .207 in the
match but couldn't overcome Northwood's offensive attack.
The Wolves
(2-3) will face No. 18 Hawaii Pacific for the second time
in the tournament tonight at 7 p.m. in the third place match.

WOLVES
DEFEAT NSIC FOE WAYNE STATE 3-0

HILO,
HAWAII: The NSU volleyball team improved to 2-2 on the season
with a 30-25, 30-17, 30-21 win over NSIC foe Wayne State (Neb.)
on Saturday in the Hawaiian Style Tournament in Hilo, Hawaii.
The Wolves
took advantage of 31 Wildcat hitting errors in the match and
outhit Wayne State .333 to .059.
Stephanie
Tschetter and Kim Heny recorded eight kills each to lead a
very balanced NSU offensive attack. Molly Veenhof posted 11
digs on the match and senior Christi Lucas managed five blocks
on the night.
Wayne
State (2-2) was led by Rayna Nelson who had a match-high 13
kills.
Northern
will continue play on Sunday in the final day of the Hawaiian
Style Tournament. They will face Northwood (MI) at 3 p.m.
in a rematch of Friday's contest that saw Northwood sweep
the Wolves 3-0. The Timberwolves are ranked No. 23 in NCAA
II.

TAKES NO. 18 HAWAII PACIFIC TO FIVE

HILO,
HAWAII: Northern State gave the number 18 team in the nation
all that it could handle in day two of the Hawaiian Style
Tournament in Hilo, HI today.
The Wolves
jumped out to win the first game 32-30 before falling in the
next two 30-20 and 33-31. NSU roared back with a 30-23 win
in game four but Hawaii Pacific was able to hold off the Wolves
by capturing the fifth game 15-13.
In the
loss, junior setter Tara Sauter became the fifth player in
NSU history to record 1,000 set assists. She posted 34 on
the day and now stands at 1,009 in her career.
Christi
Lucas led the NSU offense, pounding a season-high 17 kills
and recording four blocks. Jessica Bates also continued her
solid performance in Hawaii with a 15-kill three block performance.
Kim Heny
and Molly Veenhof led the Wolf defense with 12 digs each.
Heny also added four blocks for NSU, as well.
Northern
State will now enter tournament play with a 1-2 record and
will face NSIC rival Wayne State (Neb.) tonight at 11:30 p.m.
central time.

SPLITS IN FIRST DAY OF HAWAIIAN STYLE CLASSIC

HILO,
HAWAII: The NSU volleyball team opened up the 2002 season
with a split in the Hawaiian Style Classic in Hilo, HI.
The Wolves
rolled over East Texas Baptist (0-1) in their first match
on Friday, 30-17, 30-24, 30-23. Junior College transfer Jessica
Bates started off her career as a Wolf in high fashion with
a nine-kill performance to lead the NSU attack. Senior Christi
Lucas joined Bates with seven kills and five blocks on the
match.
The Wolves
hit .281 as a team against ETBU and held the Tigers to just
a .033 hitting percentage on the evening.
The Wolves
faced nationally ranked Northwood (MI) (2-0) in their second
match of the night. The Timberwolves took control of the
match
early and downed Northern 30-20, 30-19, 30-22, giving the
Wolves their first loss of the season.
NSU hit
just .097 on the game and was led by Christi Lucas and Molly
Veenhof who posted seven kills each.
Northern
continues play in the second day of the Hawaiian Style Tournament
on Saturday when the meet No. 18 Hawaii Pacific at 6:30 p.m.
central time.
