NO. 12 MSU, MANKATO DEALS WOLVES 3-2 LOSS

OMAHA, NEB . - The Northern State volleyball team made a valient effort to knock off No. 12-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato on Friday in the first day of the NSIC/NCC Challenge in Omaha, but fell just short as the Mavericks came back from a 2-1 deficit to win games four and five and thwart the Wolves' upset bid.

Jessica Bates and Chelsey Deibert paced the NSU charge with 15 and 13 kills, respectively while Tara Sauter came up with 42 assists.

Monica Inge stepped up defensively in the match with 23 digs as Renae Sparling chipped in 15. Deibert and Tara Engquist had match highs with four blocks apiece.

NSU hit just .157 as a team compared to MSU's .262.

Northern State faces Northwest Missouri State Friday at 6 p.m.
