WOLVES VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS NSIC WEEKLY AWARDS

ABERDEEN, SD - Northern State’s Renae Sparling (So., OH, Athol, S.D.) and Monica Inge (Sr., DS, Johnston, Iowa) were named as this week’s NSIC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Sparling led the Wolves to an NSIC-opening victory over Minnesota State Moorhead Saturday and a 1-1 overall mark for the week recording 29 kills (4.14 k/g) and 28 digs (4.00 d/g) while hitting at a .250 clip in two matches. She was also fourth on the team with four blocks and posted two set assists, as well. Sparling now ranks second on the team in hitting with 2.46 kills per game on the year.

Inge recorded 35 digs (5.00 d/g) in two matches this past week for the Wolves. In the process, Inge moved into the top 15 in career digs at NSU with 789 for her career. She also surged into the lead on the NSU all-time serve receive percentage charts with a .945 mark in three-plus seasons at Northern. This marks the second time this season that Inge has won defensive player of the week honors.

Northern State (5-8, 1-0 NSIC) will host Southwest Minnesota State on Friday night and Wayne State (Neb.) on Saturday.
