Sabby with the Kill

Aberdeen, S.D. -South Dakota overcame 23 hitting and 11 service errors to beat Northern State in three games, 30-12, 30-26, 30-27. The Wolves had 23 hitting and eight service errors of their own, but the Coyotes conquered the kill category with 52 compared to the Wolves 28.

The Wolves were hammered in game one, as they looked very rusty. The Coyotes racked up 17 kills to the Wolves five. The Wolves also had seven attack errors to the Coyotes three in the first game.

Game two had the Wolves leading throughout, including a 20-15 lead before South Dakota went on a 6-1 run to tie the game at 21. The Wolves remained close at 23-24 before they fell apart. The Wolves gave away the game as they had six errors giving the Coyotes their final six points, including a service error on game point.

Game three was again close, with six ties and six lead changes. The Coyotes opened up a six-point lead before the Wolves rallied late, but fell short 30-27.

The Wolves hitting woes continued as they hit a disappointing .036 (28K-23E-137TA) on the night. They Coyotes did not hit especially well as they finished with a .200 hitting percentage (52K-23E-145TA).

Kristina Sabby played solid for the second consecutive match as she finished the night with five kills (5K-2E-12TA), ten digs, and three block assists. Kellie Heier made her return to the line-up after missing the last match and half to an ankle injury. She finished the night with 23 kill assists, 13 digs, four kills, an ace, and a block assist.

The Wolves return to NSIC action this weekend when they travel to Minnesota, Crookston on Friday night and Bemidji State on Saturday afternoon.
