Wolves Outlast Fighting Sioux in Five Game Match

Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State (13-12, 5-6 NSIC) won a pivotal non-conference match in from of 341 fans at Barnett Center as they outlast North Dakota (12-11, 4-4 NCC) in five game by the scores of 30-27, 31-33, 21-30, 30-22, 15-9.
With the win the Wolves improve their chances of making the regional tournament as they came in ranked ninth in the region, while North Dakota was in the seventh spot. The win over the Fighting Sioux should give the Wolves an advantage down the stretch as the top eight teams in the region move on to post season play.
Northern State had four players in double figure kills, led by senior Chelsey Deibert’s 20. Odemaris Diaz had 16, Luciola Figueroa added 14, while Angie Aadahl had ten. Katie Hegge had a season high 38 digs, while Aadahl had 34 of her own. Kellie Heier had 57 kill assists, 18 digs and five kills in the match from her setter position. Deibert had a season high 68 attempts in the match.
The Fight Sioux were led by Aileen Cahill who led the match in kills with 24 and in digs with 41.
The Wolves were out-blocked in the match 11 to 10 as Daiz led the Wolves with five assisted and a solo while Heier had three assisted and two solo blocks in the match.
The two teams were similar in hitting as the Wolves hit .141 (71K-32E-276TA) and the Sioux hit .149 (77K-37E-269TA). The Sioux hurt themselves with six ball handling errors and seven service errors, including a service error to end the match.
The Wolves has season highs in kills (71), total attempts (276) and in digs (141) in the match.
The Wolves will be at home this weekend when they host #4 Concordia St. Paul on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Wolves will host Winona State at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Barnett Center.
