Perez Named NSIC Player of the Week
ABERDEEN, SD. – Northern State's Melanie Perez was named Northern Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced late Tuesday afternoon. Perez is the first Northern athlete to gain Player of the Week recognition for the 2006-07 competitive year.
Perez, a transfer from Western Nebraska Community College, was a standout player in the Wolves' backcourt last weekend, totalling 116 digs at the North Dakota Extreme Tournament. The 5-9 sophomore from Rio Piedras, PR came up with a season high 35 digs against St. Cloud State on Friday, September 1, and had at least 22 digs in each of the four matches played. Perez currently leads the Wolves with 190 digs on the season.
Players are evaluated and nominated each week for one of three NSIC Volleyball Player of the Week honors. Awards are given to those athletes who have displayed the best offensive, defensive, and setting performances over the past week's matches.
Northern State University (located in Aberdeen, SD) is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
