Perez transfered to NSU this season from Western Nebraska CC.
ABERDEEN, SD. – For the second straight week and the fourth time this season, sophomore Melanie Perez (Rio Piedras, PR) took home the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week award.
Perez averaged 9.0 digs per game last week and led the Wolves' defensive front in wins against Bemidji State and MN-Crookston. Perez had 30 digs in the three-game match against Bemidji on Friday night. On the season, the 5-9 libero has averaged 5.99 digs per game, which is more than any player in the NSIC and places her among the top 20 defenders in the nation.
The Wolves are currently 15-11 on the season, with a mark of 9-7 in the NSIC. NSU will attempt to set the national volleyball attendance record at Wachs Arena on Friday night. The Wolves will host #7 Concordia-St. Paul at 7:00 pm. Upper Iowa will roll into town on Saturday to wrap up the 2006 regular season with a 3:00 pm match.
