MARSHALL, Minn. - The Northern State volleyball team took a game from 7th-ranked Southwest Minnesota State University on the road Friday night before ultimately falling in four games. The game scores were as follows, 17-30, 30-25, 16-30 and 15-30. The loss is the first league loss for the Wolves this season, as they are now 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC. The Mustangs are 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Northern's best hitting performance of the night came in the second game, when they hit .130. On the match, the Wolves were kept to just a .027 hitting clip. The Mustangs had 67 kills to NSU's 36, but the Wolves came up with 88 digs in the match.

Kelsey Aden, Emily Knaeble and Betsy Moormann led the Wolves' offense with seven kills each. Aden tallied three block assists in the match, as did Jill Rasmussen. Stephanie Nygaard led the defensive effort with 24 digs. Also with 20+ digs was Stephanie Perez, who notched 20 and also had 17 kill assists and three service aces.

Erin Contons led the attack for the Mustangs, tallying 21 kills in the four games played. Tricia Ingvalson was next with 17 kills, followed by Leah Ashburn with 11. Sara Graf dished out 57 assists. Defensively, Sarah Quiram led all players with 26 digs, while Contons had 21 for a double-double. The Mustangs forced the issue at the net, collecting nine team blocks. Ashburn had six, including six block assists and one solo.

The Wolves will look to get back to their winning ways as they continue a road trip in Wayne, Neb. tomorrow, taking on the Wayne State Wildcats.
