ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Wildcats of Wayne State came to Wachs Arena Wednesday evening and downed the Northern State Wolves in three straight games, 36-34, 30-18, 30-11. The Wolves are now 9-9 on the season and 4-6 in the NSIC while the Wildcats improve to 14-9 overall and 7-4 in the NSIC.

The Wolves battled with Wayne State and led for most of the first game. They came out hitting strong and forced the Wildcats into errors. Northern led by as many as seven points late in the game. Down 16-23, Wayne State worked to close the gap and take a 27-26 lead with an 11-3 run. Brittany Van Beek led the attack with a number of kills, while the Wolves had numerous errors. The teams battled back and forth, trading kills and errors. Emily Schroeder gave the Wildcats a final push, putting down three kills in the final five points of the game before WSC won 36-34.

The Wildcats took the momentum from the game one win into the remaining games. They hit .405 and committed just one hitting error in game two and pounced on the Wolves again in the third game, at one point going on a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach. The Wolves did what they could to hang tough, but the Wildcats were unstoppable at the net, as they marked seven blocks in the third game alone.

The Wolves received 12 kills and 16 digs from Emily Knaeble and 11 kills fom Kelsey Aden. Stephanie Nygaard led the team in digs with 21 and was one of five NSU players to record double figures in digs. NSU hit .039 on the match and had three team blocks.

Emily Schroeder gave the Wildcats 16 kills, 18 digs, and seven blocks against the Wolves. Van Beek had 15 kills and Jennifer Hefner led the squad with eight block assists. Libero Laura Dolezal led all players with 25 digs. The Wildcats hit .214 on the night with 49 kills. They had 17 team blocks and 91 digs.

The Wolves are on the road this weekend, playing at UM, Crookston Friday night and Bemidji State Saturday afternoon.
