ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State volleyball team (13-13) faced off with Augustana College (17-9) in their final home match of the 2007 season. The Vikings won the non-conference battle with the Wolves and took a 3-0 win with scores of 30-23, 30-17, and 30-28. Northern has two NSIC matches remaining in the season.
The Wolves stayed in the match by digging up Augustana attacks and showing periods of aggressive hitting. Their passing game was not in sync, however, and made it difficult to get their offense running. Kelsey Aden had 15 kills and just four errors for a .297 hitting average. Also finishing in double figures in hitting for NSU was Stephanie Perez, who notched a double double with 11 kills and 13 digs. The Wolves hit .102 in the match with 42 kills and 73 digs.
Augustana hit .231 on the match and used an effective serving game to keep the Wolves out of system on offense. 20 of the Vikings' points in the final game came directly from kills. They out-blocked the Wolves nine to five in the match. AC was led by Ellen Andrews with 15 kills and had three other players finish in double figures. The team had 79 digs and 53 kills.
Northern will play the final weekend of the 2007 schedule on the road with matches at Concordia-St. Paul and MSU Moorhead this weekend.
