After absorbing a red-hot start by Moorhead State, Northern State controlled the flow of the game and picked up a big conference road win 78-69 Wednesday in Moorhead.
The Dragons couldn't miss out of the gate, making six of their first seven shots to grab an eight-point lead in the first five minutes. But the Wolves whittled that llead away in the next three minutes to take their first lead of the game at 17-16. NSU never trailed again, extending their cushion to as many as 20 points in the second half.
Junior guard Jammie Coyle (Belle Fourche, S.D.) led all scorers with 23 points. Coyle and fellow junior guard Amanda Mikuska (Platte, S.D.) led the team in rebounding with five boards apiece. Mikuska's game-high eight assists moved her into 10th place on NSU's career assist list past Kris Johnson (269 assists from 1987-91). Mikuska now has 271 career assists.
The Wolves take off Friday for a road date at Minnesota-Duluth Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.
