NSU EARNS WIN AT MORRIS

Feb. 20, 1999

Northern State defeated Minnesota-Morris 70-51 Saturday night at Morris.

The Wolves were led by sophomore forward Memory Johannsen (Tolstoy, S.D.) who scored 15 points to go along with a team-tying high seven rebounds. Johannsen, who has spent time playing point guard since junior Amanda Mikuska's (Platte, S.D.) shoulder injury, returned to her starting small forward slot when Mikuska returned to start at point Saturday.

Sophomore forward Natalie Braun (Warner, S.D.) slid from the small forward to start at the power forward position. Braun was inserted into the starting lineup after Mikuska's injury and was simply playing too well as of late not to start. She finished with 10 points, seven boards and three steals mostly on early minutes, as NSU was able to clear the bench in the second half.

Mikuska dished out a game-high eight assists to go along with five rebounds and four points at the point. Senior post Crystal Bonnichsen (Highmore, S.D.), playing in her last road game for Northern, finished with 11 points and seven boards. Junior guard Jammie Coyle (Belle Fourche, S.D.) rounded out NSU's double-digit performers with 10 points. In all, 16 Wolves saw playing time Saturday night. Laurie Plahn led UMM with 16 points.

NSU finishes its season at home Wednesday against Winona State.
