After narrowly losing to second-ranked Arkansas Tech in the first round of the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Northern State rebounded with a resounding 89-64 win over Barry University (Miami Shores, Fla.) Saturday.
The Wolves (1-1) got out of the gate fast and never looked back, opening a 14-point halftime lead before coasting in the second half. Every player on NSU's roster broke into the scoring column. Junior forward Natalie Braun (Warner) led NSU's balanced attack, scoring 13 points and hauling down a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior guard Jammie Coyle (Belle Fourche) scored 14 points and came up with two steals for NSU. Junior post Jennifer Murphy (Aberdeen) rounded out NSU's double-digit scorers with 13 points. Junior forward Memory Johannsen (Tolstoy) had six assists and was a perfect six-of-six from the line.
All was not roses for the Wolves Saturday, however. Senior fourth-year
starter Amanda Mikuska (Platte) went down with an ankle injury during the
game. The savvy point guard is questionable for Sunday's matchup for fifth
place against ninth-ranked Francis Marion University (South Carolina).
Tip-off is scheduled for noon.
