Northern State didn't have a stellar night offensively, but completely controlled play from the outset to hand Bemidji State a 79-56 loss Saturday night in Aberdeen.
The Wolves (9-5 overall, 5-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) shot just 29 percent in the first half but hit the offensive glass hard enough to still hold a near 20-point lead at 33-14 as the teams went into the locker rooms. Of NSU's 25 rebounds the first half, 13 came on the offensive end. The Wolves held BSU (1-12, 1-4) to single digits until the final two minutes of the first half.
In the second half, NSU's reserves saw quality minutes. In all, 18 players saw playing time, with 13 breaking into the scoring column. Starting senior forward Natalie Braun (Warner) sat the game to rest a strained knee.
The Wolves were led by senior forward Memory Johannsen (Tolstoy) and freshman guard Carin Rambow (Litchfield, Minn.). Both tallied a team-high 12 points and six rebounds. Johannsen earned most of her points at the line, where she went 8-of-9. Junior forward Shanna Dahl (St. Cloud, Minn.), who replaced Braun in the starting lineup, rounded out NSU's double-digit scorers with 10 points and also grabbed six boards.
