Sophomore guard/forward Shana Theobald (Brookings) helped Northern State built a 44-29 halftime lead and cruise to an 83-60 win at Concordia University-St. Paul Friday night.
The Wolves (17-8, 13-4 NSIC) were able to blow the game open in the first half thanks in no small part to the sophomore's shooting. Theobald nailed three 3-pointers in the final two minutes of the first stanza to help turn a six-point lead into the 15-point bulge NSU enjoyed at the break. From there, NSU built its lead to as many as 27 points and never let the Golden Bears (11-15, 7-10 NSIC) back into the game.
Theobald and senior post Jennifer Murphy (Aberdeen) paced a balanced Wolves attack with 15 points apiece. Junior point guard Holly Schaunaman (Leola) and senior forward Memory Johannsen (Tolstoy) rounded out NSU's double-digit scorers with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Johannsen also pulled down seven rebounds and added four assists. Junior forward Shanna Dahl (St. Cloud, Minn.) led the team in rebounding with eight boards, while junior guard Sara Hemquist (Baxter, Minn.) led the team with five assists. C-SP was led by Lisa Harfield's 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Wolves hope to return to Concordia's Gangelhoff Center next weekend for the NSIC Championships. But first they will finish the regular season Saturday night in Winona before hosting a first-round playoff game Tuesday.
