Northern State claimed the consolation round of the 2000 Nebraska-Kearney Thanksgiving Tournament by defeating Texas Woman's University 82-73 Saturday.

NSU )1-4) came out of the gates with a stifling defensive effort, holding TWU to just 21 first-half points and just 25 percent shooting. Northern's offense didn't fare much better in the first half, however, shooting just 36 percent from the field and posting 32 points.

Both offenses rolled in the second half, as NSU finished with three players scoring in double digits. Chief among them was junior guard Holly Schaunaman (Leola), who scored 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Senior forward Memory Johannsen (Tolstoy) added 14 points to go with six rebounds, while junior forward Shanna Dahl (St. Cloud, Minn.) chipped in 10 points and a team-high eight boards. TWU was led by Jennifer Hall's 19 points.
