With Northern fans on the edge of their seats yet again, senior team captain Memory Johannsen (Tolstoy, S.D.) sent Southwest State home with a last-second shot as time expired in overtime to give the Wolves a 66-64 overtime win.
With the score tied and nine seconds left on the clock, the Wolves inbounded the ball under their own basket to Johannsen. Johannsen then went from end-to-end before hitting the turn-around jumper as the buzzer sounded, sending the fans, the coaches and the players into a frenzied celebration.
Johannsen led all scorers with 20 points, and was a stellar 10-10 from the charity stripe. Senior center Jennifer Murphy (Aberdeen, S.D.) had a double-double for the Wolves with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Holly Schaunaman (Leola, S.D.) led the Wolves with five crucial steals and chipped in 13 points. Junior post Shanna Dahl (St. Cloud, Minn.) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Wolves with 10 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting from the field.
The win improves the Wolves record to 5-4, and 2-0 in the NSIC.
