How
to slay a Dragon -- NSU coach Curt
Fredrickson instructs his team during a timeout against
MSU-Moorhead Friday night. |
Northern
State controlled every aspect of the game in a 70-48 domination
of Minnesota State-Moorhead Friday night in a Northern Sun
Intercollegiate Conference game at NSU's Barnett Center.
The Dragons
came into the game with high expectations after upsetting
perennial regional power Minnesota-Duluth last weekend. But
the Wolves quickly crashed their high spirits. The Wolves
(9-4, 4-1 NSIC) never trailed, built a first-half lead of
as many as 23 and held MSUM to single digits until the 3 minute,
30 second mark of the first half. In the second half, NSU's
underclassmen and junior varsity players got to see varsity
time. NSU sent in 19 players during the game, while 14 players
broke into the scoring column.
Senior
point guard Holly Schaunaman (Leola) made the most of her
minutes by scoring 10 points in addition to four rebounds,
three steals and two assists. She was the only NSU player
to reach double digits. True freshman Andrea Ronderos (Washburn,
N.D.) tied a career high in rebounds, leading the team with
six. MSUM (6-6, 2-2 NSIC), was led by Katie Doerr's 11 points
and eight rebounds.
NSU continues
conference play at home Saturday night against Minnesota-Crookston.
