WOLVES TOO MUCH FOR WAYNE STATE

Feb. 2, 2002

Floor general -- Ever-steady senior point guard Holly Schaunaman brings it up against Wayne State Saturday night.

Northern State remained a game out of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference lead with a 77-66 win over Wayne State (Neb.) Saturday night at NSU's Barnett Center.

The Wolves (15-6, 10-3 NSIC) used 48 percent shooting in the second half and were able to keep a 5-10 point lead throughout most of the game. Sophomore guard Carin Rambow (Litchfield, Minn.) led the team with 18 points, followed by senior point guard Holly Schaunaman (Leola), who netted 14. Freshman post Natalie Hopkins (St. Louis Park, Minn.) rounded out NSU's double-digit scorers with 10 points. She and Schaunaman led the team in rebounding, each grabbing six boards apiece. Wayne (9-12, 6-7 NSIC) was led by Dodie Martin's 16 points.

The Wildcats used timely 3-pointers throughout to stay in the game, going 9-of-16 from dowtown on the night. NSU out-rebounded WSC by 11.

Northern will face a tough road trip next weekend, traveling to Minnesota-Crookston and Minnesota State-Moorhead.
