WOLVES
END REGULAR SEASON BY DOMINATING MINNESOTA-MORRIS
Feb. 22,
2002
Northern
State did its part Friday night, but didn't receive any help
in the team's hopes of claiming a share of the 2002 Northern
Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular season title.
But the
NSIC regular season isn't quite over yet.
The Wolves
ended their regular season by defeating Minnesota-Morris 84-37.
But the two teams a game ahead of NSU in the conference standings
also won, with Concordia-St. Paul winning at Bemidji State
and Southwest State edging Minnesota State-Moorhead on the
road.
Both CSP
and SSU have a game remaining, however. CSP has to travel
to perennial league stronghold Minnesota-Duluth, while Southwest
travels to face a scrappy Minnesota-Crookston squad. If both
teams lose, NSU will pull into a three-way tie for the conference
regular season crown.
The game
at Morris turned into a chance for underclassmen to get playing
time, as Northern ran 18 players into the contest and 15 managed
to get on the scoreboard. With no player logging over 16 minutes
in the game, Junior forward Shana Theobald (Brookings) was
the only NSU player to reach double digits with 12 points.
UMM (0-26, 0-18 NSIC) was led by Erin Reger's 12 points.
