Nov. 17, 2001

Northern State bounced back from a season-opening loss with a hard-fought 58-56 victory over South Dakota Saturday night during the second day of the Tri-State Classic in Sioux City, Iowa.

NSU led by five at halftime and by as many as 13 in the second half before USD made its run at the end of the game.

Sophomore guard Carin Rambow (Litchfield, Minn.) found her range from the perimeter, leading the Wolves with 13 points including three 3-pointers. Freshman center Natalie Hopkins (St. Louis Park, Minn.) continued to impress, rounding out NSU's double-digit scorers with 10 points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.

USD (1-1) was led by Mandy Koupal's 25 points and 13 rebounds.

Northern (1-1) will hit the road to compete in a weekend classic again next week, traveling to Meto State's Roadrunner Classic in Denver, Colo.
